dual-shaft twin tire shredder with circular cutting barclay knives, fed by an inclined conveyor at an outdoor recycling site.

Dual Shaft Twin Shredder

Barclay Intermediate Tire Shredder Overview:

After the first pass of whole tires through a 4.9P, primary shreds enter the 3.8P twin-shaft or intermediate shredder. A Classifier can be placed behind the 3.8P to recirculate oversized pieces for a guaranteed nominal product.

For larger recyclers looking to maximize output and tonnage per hour, the Top Feed 3.8” Intermediate Shredder paired with the Through-Feed 4.9” Primary Shredder will reduce the tires to the needed size at much quicker speeds and high tonnage volumes. A 2S Secondary Shredder runs most efficiently behind the 3.8P Intermediate Shredder taking the smaller feedstock and producing fuel chips.

  • Intermediate Role: Furthering size reduction while maintaining high volume throughput in shredder line
  • Max Feedstock Size: Rough Shreds discharging from Primary Shredder ahead of it
  • Output Strip Sizes: 3.8″ cuts
  • Feed Configurations: Top load with removable hopper

Sharing the same chassis and overbuilt engineering as our Primary Shredders, the 3.8P Intermediate Tire Shredders are built to process high volumes of scrap tires with maximum efficiency and minimal downtime, integrated into a full multi-stage processing line for maximum throughput and efficient size reduction with every cut. Barclay machines deliver the rugged shearing power required for the most demanding recycling operations.

Why Choose the Barclay Dual-Shaft Twin Shredder

Barclay is the partner of choice for tire recyclers across the globe. Our products deliver the lowest cost per ton to buy, operate, and maintain.

Buy Only What You Need

Start with a Barclay 4.9P Primary Shredder to get immediate ROI in the industry. Then add a 3.8P twin shaft shredder as volume requirements increase and the need for smaller chip sizes for different end markets arises.

Save Money Sharpening

Maximize wear part investments. The 3.8P Intermediate Shredder uses a full set of 1.4″ Cru-Wear tool steel blades. Remove the flipped and dull 1.5″ wide blades of your 4.9P Primary and sharpen them down to 1.4″ to be installed on your 3.8P Shredder. Save money and maximize your investment only buying new 1.5″ blades and sharpening them down.

Standardize Your Equipment

Since the 3.8P Intermediate and 4.9P Primary Shredder are on the same chassis, they share the majority of the same components. No special tools or training are required to maintain Barclay Shredders and a small list of common wear parts will cover all the units in your line.

Spend Less Time

With the philosophy of simplicity and overbuilt construction, spend more time shredding than being shut down working on equipment. Barclay equipment is designed to be your workhorse that you can depend on. Engineered with few wear parts that can fail and easily accessible and replaceable components, you will find this is your favorite low touch piece of equipment you own.

Secondary chipper shredders and downstream granulators require small feedstock to run most efficiently. To prevent bottlenecks further down the line, the 3.8P Intermediate further reduces chip size to feed the next shredder in line.

TDA and Civil Engineering Chips – After a single pass through a 4.9P Primary Shredder and 3.8P, the majority of product will be in the acceptable TDA range. Guarantee a nominal product with a daisy wheel classifier behind your Intermediate Shredder.

Key Engineering Features & System Components

Rotating Strippers

Rotating strippers continuously clean the cutting chambers to ensure proper material flow and prevent blockages. With this innovative design, you no longer have to deal with stuck tire shreds and spending valuable time replacing wear plates. Barclay’s rotating strippers maximize material throughput resulting in a more efficient operation. High volumes of re-shredding without clogging or jams. The shreds are being cleanly cut and neatly ejected from the cutting chamber.

Gravity Fed with Removable Hopper

Top Feed Hopper funnels primary shreds into cutting chamber for maximum throughput. Hopper is removable for easy access to cutting chamber for inspection and maintenance.

Heavy Duty #100 Chain with Adjustable Chain Tensioners

Rotating stripper shafts come with adjustable chain tensioning slack adjustors which are both easy to adjust and require virtually no shredding downtime.

C-Faced Motor, Gearbox and Drive Train Protection

Barclay 3.8 shredders come standard with a premium SEW-Eurodrive helical-bevel gearmotor that connect to a shear coupling system with replaceable failure point shear pins to protect each shredder from shock loading.

All shredders come fully wired and ready to accept line connection with simple and easy-to-use controls to move the shredder forward or to jog it back, as well as a large, easily pressed emergency stop button.
